1985 Nick writes his first lyric, 'Aftermath 84'. James records very early demos.

1989 Manic's first gig at the Crumlin Railway Hotel- features original bassist Miles Woodward ('Flicker'). Second gig at Blackwood's Little Theatre. Gig at Pontypridd Rugby Club- the band are banned from returning. 'Flicker' leaves the band. More demos are recorded, at South Bank Studios. Manics record 'Suicide Alley' and 'Tennessee (I Get Low)', released as a single. Richey officially joins the band. The band play Swansea University with Richey onstage (for one song). First London gig at the 'Horse & Groom' pub.

1990 Demo single 'U.K. Channel Boredom' is released, given away free with fanzines. The band sign to Damaged Goods and release 'New Art Riot'. Phillip Hall becomes the band's manager.

1991 The band are interviewed by 'Melody Maker'. 'Feminine Is Beautiful' is released, based on South Bank Studio demos. The band sign to Heavely Records and release 'Motown Junk'. The band travel to Paris and have to buy passports. Nicky is hospitalised and diagnosed with Gilbert's Syndrome. 'You Love Us' is released. Richey carves '4 REAL' into his arm with a razorblade in front of Steve Lamacq, after a gig in Norwich. The band signs to Columbia Records. 'Stay Beautiful' is released. 'Love's Sweet Exile / Repeat' is released. The Manics appear on 'The Word', playing 'Repeat' instead of 'Love's Sweet Exile'.

1992: A new version of 'You Love Us' is released. Nicky attempts to give James a blowjob on the band's first 'Top Of The Pops' appearance. Debut album 'Generation Terrorists is released. 'Slash 'N' Burn' is released. The Manics travel to New York on tour. 'Motorcycle Emptiness' is released. The band play Reading Festival, and Nicky injures a photographer with his smashed bass. The Manics contribute a cover of 'Theme From MASH (Suicide Is Painless)' for a charity album. 'Little Baby Nothing', is released. The band play Kilburn National Ballroom, and Nicky Wire wishes death on R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe. They don't break up, despite promises to the contrary.

1993: 'From Despair To Where' is released.'Gold Against The Soul is released. Nicky marries his childhood sweetheart, Rachel. The band support Bon Jovi in Milton Keynes, and regret it. 'Roses In The Hospital' is released. Manager Phillip Hall tragically dies of cancer; his brother Martin takes over.

1994: 'Life Becoming A Landslide' is released. The band travel to Bangkok on tour and are met by an obssessive fanbase. Richey slashes his chest for a fan who leaves knives in his dressing room and hires a prostitute. 'Faster / P.C.P.' is released. The Manics appear on 'Top Of The Pops', James wearing a IRA balaclava. 25,000 viewers complain. The band play a riotous show at Glastonbury Festival. Richey disappers into his home for three days and is admitted to an NHS pyschiatric hospital when he comes out of hibernation. The Manics play T In The Park Festival as a trio. Fans ad- lib "Richey's in the hospital" during performances of "Roses in the Hospital." 'Revol' is released. Richey is admitted to 'The Priory clinic in London. The band play Reading Festival as a trio. 'The Holy Bible' is released. Richey leaves the clinic and the band tour France. 'She Is Suffering' is released. The tour is cancelled after Richey bangs his head continually against a hotel wall. The Manics play the London Astoria, Richey dives into Sean's drumkit and the band destroy the stage in a fury.

1995: The Manics win 'The Radio One Session Of The Year' Award. Due to fly to America, Richey disappears from The Embassy Hotel in London. Days later, his car is found abandoned near the Severn Bridge.

1996: 'A Design For Life' is released and hits number 2- their highest chart yet. 'Everything Must Go' is released. The single 'Everything Must Go' is released. 'Kevin Carter' is released. 'Australia' is released.

1997: The Manics win 'Best Band' and 'Best Album' at the Brit Awards. The Manics play their biggest gig yet at the Manchester Nynex Arena. The video 'Everything Live', filmed at the Nynex, is released. The Manics headline Reading Festival.

1998: 'If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next' is released, reaching number one. 'This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours' reaches number one. 'The Everlasting' is released.

1999 : The Manics win 'Best Band' and 'Best Album' at the Brit Awards. 'You Stole The Sun From My Heart' is released. The Manics headline Glastonbury Festival. 'Tsunami' is released. The Manics headline T In The Park Festival and V99. The Manics play two sets at Cardiff's Milennium Stadium on New Year's Eve.

2000: The band release 'Masses Against The Classes'.
